Today

Today is the beginning. I've had so much that I've wanted to write but didn't. Either I didn't have time, or the energy or desire to walk across the room to the computer. At this point, I can't remember what I've written here, or in my notebooks, or in my notes on my flashdrive, but I do know where I need to start.

A. Name the 3 most important things of your life:
1. God
2. Family
3. Friends

I'll prioritize the other aspects of my life later, but for now, I'm focusing on these 3 things. So, step one of my New Year's theme (Faith, Hope and Love) is to make sure my actions and decisions are based on what is most important.

I've already spent a lot of time on this one this past week with everything going on in my personal life which I'll write more about later, but you can probably get the jest of in the About Me section.

I heard that it takes approximately 4 weeks to learn a new habit and its virtually impossible to learn more than 1 habit at time; 2 simultaneous habits are possible, as long as they are closely related.

I'm going to start with the following format. I feel my first task is the biggest one and hope that all following tasks throughout the year will fall into place from this one.

2011 Theme: Faith, Hope and Love
2011 Tagline: Prayer
January Goal: Focus on what is most important: God, family, friends
Step one: Get closer to God.
Actions: Learn to meditate; (as my friend Pauline says:) walk with God, give everything up to God; keep a journal (this blog) and read the Bible.
Habit: meditation - includes time to reflect, to walk and to read
Related habit: journal entries
Hope to accomplish: inner peace and understanding

  1. Shari - Bless you!! I can see by reading this that your heart is definitely in the right place - and that is a wonderful thing. God is truly speaking to you - God's Holy Spirit is the one who gives you these desires to 'know Him' and to 'learn of Him'... He loves you So Much and I believe that He is holding both Ken and you in His big loving arms.

Today, praying with a dear friend of mine in church, we believed the scriptures that say:
"where 2 or 3 are gathered together in His Name, (the Name Of Jesus Christ), that He will be there in the midst, and will hear us and answer our prayers". Praise God for the assurance that He gives us. He will be there for you, Shari. Keep looking to Jesus, he created you, He knows all about you and Ken and knows the desires of your heart. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you."

So your step one and action was 'to get to know God better'. This warms the heart of God....like a father towards his children.

Reading the Bible is the best thing you could ever do.....this is one way how He speaks to us. Read, listen and give Him praise. Make notes and keep for later to read and meditate again. I love to do this and I make it a priority in my life. You'll not be disappointed :)

Seek Him, Shari - you'll never regret it.....He'll give you the Peace that only can come from Him, God Almighty.........I am praying and seeking God with you :)

love you and keep trusting my friend :)
    hugs,
    Pauline

  2. I have found that sometimes all that you need to do is to stop for a moment and look at one little thing at a time. I have found "God" so to speak in the many shades of red and pink in a sunset, in that still quiet that comes after a storm, looking at a water drop on the surface of your skin after a shower, and the way a butterfly flutters by on a warm summer day. All the other things on your list will help to, but sometimes clearing your mind and just stopping everything to ponder the amazing things around us in this life of ours is all we need to get closer to the one that created it.

Shari, no matter what you should know you are loved by us all. Doxie kisses from Sasha. Take care, Athena.

  3. Shari, It sounds like you are thinking strong and your heading is clear. Good luck with your journey. I know you will be successful.
You have God, you have family, and you have friends. That is a wonderful start already.
    Love,
    Diana

  5. I'm the one with a few tears this morning... You ladies are so incredible! I thank God every day that I have all of you in my life :)

How are you planning on reading the Bible, Shari? From start to finish, or just different bits at a time? I know when I used to read my Bible it was VERY inspiring. I concentrated on the New Testament and was astounded at the beauty and love to be found there. It also made the Bible seem so much more real, not just an old text, but the wonderous story of what really happened. I need to join you in beginning my reading again. It is such a great way to begin the day :)

  6. I'm trying to start from the beginning once again. It seems I try and try to read the whole thing and always end up skipping to the New Testament. Sometimes I look up key words on a bible website. I had started writing a book series several years ago and was getting a lot of inspiration from the bible, so I was skipping around a lot and looking up specific topics, and I remember stories from my Sunday school days, but now, I feel like I need to read the Old Testament. I may listen to parts of it and read parts of it. I don't really like the version I downloaded; I'm use to the King James Version.
