Matthew 6:33

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness,
and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:33 ESV

*********
Please join me this week in praying for contentment for ourselves and others. May we rest in the hope of Jesus Christ. Pray that those who do not have a personal relationship with Christ come to know Him. Pray that we recognize the daily blessings that God bestows on us. He provides for all of our needs. Let us be thankful for having food, water, shelter, and clothing. Praise God for His unfailing love and grace.

Sheep and goats

Which will you be? A sheep or a goat?

All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats. And He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left.
Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; 36 I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
Matthew 25:32-36 NKJV

See Matthew 25:31-46 for the full story of Jesus judging the Nations.

Please join me this week in praying for the strangers that we have opportunities to serve. Pray that the Lord will guide us and that the Holy Spirit will prompt us to do His will in being hospitable. Pray for an open and loving heart so that we can show and spread the light within us to everyone we meet.

What comes from your mouth

It is not what goes into the mouth that defiles a person,
but what comes out of the mouth; this defiles a person.”
Matthew 15:11 ESV

I've been watching what I say this week (more closely) and filtering what I'm going to say by thinking first and speaking second. I didn't realize how negative I can be! Just little things, but they still create an atmosphere around me that people pick up on. Example: when asked what I thought of lunch, I was going to say, "The service was slow." But, since I thought first, I turned it around to, "the food was wonderful." It's just that small little twist, speaking the positive instead of the negative that not only changes how others perceive you but also affects your outlook. You will have a much better day if you look for the good in people, situations, feelings.
I read a book about positivity several decades ago. It was excellent and I wish I still had it or at least remembered the title, but the one piece of advice that has stuck with me all of these years is take note while you're speaking...how many times do you say a negative word? How many times do you say: can't, won't, no, 'un'-words like unable, unwilling, unlikely, etc.? When I started noticing these things in my own speech, I was amazed at how many negative words I used. It's the 'glass is half-empty vs. half-full' of language. Plus, I discovered that when I changed how I spoke to include a positive selection of vocabulary, I genuinely felt better and happier. Give it a try. Let me know how it works for you.

Please join us this week as we pray that our tongues be tamed and that our words are fitting of an image-bearer of Christ. I'll post daily reminders on:

A town on a hill

Daily Bible Verse
“You are the light of the world.
A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.
Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl.
Instead they put it on its stand,
and it gives light to everyone in the house.
In the same way,
let your light shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds and
glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:14-16 (NIV)

you did it to Me

And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’

“Then He will also say to those on the left hand, ‘Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels: for I was hungry and you gave Me no food; I was thirsty and you gave Me no drink; I was a stranger and you did not take Me in, naked and you did not clothe Me, sick and in prison and you did not visit Me.’

“Then they also will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not minister to You?’ Then He will answer them, saying, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
Matthew 25:40-45 NKJV

Let your light shine

Let your light shine
Let your light so shine before men,
that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.
Matthew 5:16 NKJV

Ask seek find

This week we will be praying for ourselves. With our stress-filled, fast-paced lives, it's easy to get caught up on the circumstances without delving into the big picture, like treating the symptoms instead of the disease.

The symptoms may be that my living situation changed, or that I'm too busy or tired to get everything done, or that I'm angry with someone. My prayer might be to remedy the situation or give me more energy, or the ability to forgive this person. None of that was working, and in fact, it seemed to make things worse. Finally, I prayed for what I really needed in this situation: a day of rest and guidance. It's made a world of difference.

“Ask, and it will be given to you;
seek, and you will find;
knock, and it will be opened to you.
Matthew 7:7

Our Father is there to help us and He wants us to come to him with our needs. If you remember to share your needs and burdens with Him, it will lighten your load and make you an even brighter light for Christ.

Give secretly

But when you do a charitable deed,
do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing,
that your charitable deed may be in secret;
and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
Matthew 6:3-4 NKJV

I want to try something different, at least for a few days. Since my audience here is worldwide (hallelujah!) I'm going to use google translator to translate the daily bible verse into a different language each day. (I have no way of knowing if it translates accurately.) Today is Portuguese:

Mas quando você faz uma ação de caridade, não deixe sua mão esquerda saber o que sua mão direita está fazendo, que sua ação de caridade pode estar em segredo; e o teu Pai, que vê em secreto, recompensará-te abertamente.

Grow the Church

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing them in the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.
And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:19-20 ESV

Peter is the rock

And I tell you, you are Peter,
and on this rock I will build my church,
and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
Matthew 16:18 ESV

Peter is the rock. Jesus is the Cornerstone. We are the church.

Do not be anxious

This is one of my favorite passages for when I'm feeling anxious, worrying about some problem that will most likely never occur, but it's also a great passage to remind us that God takes care of our every need. We have so much to be thankful for.
But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is alive and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Matthew 6:30-33 ESV

The Scriptures will be fulfilled

Then Jesus said to him, “Put your sword back into its place. For all who take the sword will perish by the sword. Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then should the Scriptures be fulfilled, that it must be so?Matthew 26:52-54 ESV
