No atheists in hell

John Blanchard wrote in his book, "Whatever Happened to Hell?" that ... "there will be no atheists in hell..." This is one of those truths that is, on one hand, so obvious, but on the other, so full of irony that I had to dwell on it for quite some time. Those who end up in hell are there because they chose not to believe in God; they chose not to accept Jesus as their Savior. Once there, they'll be in His presence, forever, enduring His wrath. (Revelation 14:10) They will never again be able to deny His existence.

So it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come forth, separate the wicked* from among the just, and cast them into the furnace of fire. There will be wailing and gnashing of teeth.”
Matthew 13:49-50 NKJV
*The wicked are not necessarily "bad people" as you and I would define "bad". The wicked are those who have rejected Christ. We're all sinners. The only difference between the "just" and the "wicked" is our proclamation of our faith. The just have accepted Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and have repented.

in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. These shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of His power,
2 Thessalonians 1:8-9

And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.”
Revelation 14:11 NKJV

'Their worm* does not die
And the fire is not quenched.'
Mark 9:48 NKJV
* In other words, their conscience does not die. It's their conscience that torments them day and night for all eternity.

John Blanchard explains it really well. He wrote, "Every single word thought and deed; all the pride, envy, jealousy, hatred, selfishness, dishonesty and purity, every neglected opportunity to hear and respond to the gospel, every failure to help those in need, all these will be endlessly replayed, endlessly remembered, and be the cause of endless remorse. Not least, they will be forced to admit that although God had given them life and breath and everything (Acts 17:25) they had squandered His generosity by living for themselves." ("Whatever Happened to Hell?")

Pray fervently for the lost so that they might be saved from an eternal life of torment.

Please join me this week in praying for our loved ones who are not yet saved. It's not God's wish that any perish, but we need to petition Him for the unbelievers in our life by praying fervently and unceasingly for their salvation.

A gift of a Bible

To illustrate how important it is to put your fear behind you, I wanted to share this. Penn Jillette of Penn and Teller fame is passionate about being an atheist. He made the above video several years ago about an encounter with a Christian and had this to say:
“I’ve always said, I don’t respect people who don’t proselytize. I don’t respect that at all. If you believe there is a heaven and hell, and people could be going to hell or not getting eternal life or whatever, and you think it’s not really worth telling them this because it would make it socially awkward...
How much do you have to hate somebody to not proselytize? How much do you have to hate somebody to believe everlasting life is possible and not tell them that?
If I believed, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that a truck was coming at you, and you didn’t believe it, that that truck was bearing down on you, there’s a certain point where I tackle you, and this is more important than that.”

This is eternity we're talking about; not this short little blip on earth that we call life. We need to tell everyone. It's why we're here.
The Great Commission
Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.
And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Matthew 28:16-20
