Praise for the cross

Image by Jan Marczuk from Pixabay

I woke up this morning, singing Chris McClarney's "Hallelujah For The Cross":
Hallelujah, thank You, Jesus
I was a prisoner, now I'm not
With Your blood, You bought my freedom
Hallelujah for the cross
It is ironic, and a God thing because today I was going to write about Jesus and His ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. He came here from Heaven to live in the flesh, as we do, and demonstrated how we're to live. He never sinned, yet He took the wrath for all of our sins.
This also makes me think of His/our Father and the sacrifice that He made in sending His only Son. Anyone who has ever said 'goodbye' to a loved one leaving for battle can relate, at least in human terms. We can't however, comprehend having the foreknowledge of such a horrific death.
We also can't comprehend what Jesus went through in the time leading to His death. In the garden, He sweated blood, because of His anguish (Luke 22:44). This is a rare occurrence known as "hematohidrosis."
Praise Jesus, God, and the Holy Spirit for our freedom. Praise Them for Their love, grace, and mercy. Lift up your voices and sing, "Hallelujah for the cross."

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

Hey, Good News!

Image by Rajesh Balouria from Pixabay

We should also remember the original apostles (minus Judas, plus Matthias and Paul) plus others later commissioned, who sacrificed everything to spread the Good News. If it weren't for them, think about where we'd be right now?! I'm especially thankful to our loving and merciful Father for allowing the Gospel to spread to the gentiles.
You can do an internet search of 'how did the apostles died' for a detailed explanation of what is known based on historical records. I also found from various places where some of them traveled:

- Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ,
To the pilgrims of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

1 Peter 1:1 ESV
- Paul traveled through Israel, Syria, Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain (See the book of Acts for more information).
- Thomas and Bartholomew traveled through Iran and India
- Philip and Mark went to Egypt (separately and to different places)
- Matthew went to Ethiopia
Note: This isn't an exhaustive list and you should do your own due diligence before quoting me on any of this.

Because of them, we are free. Because of them, we will live forever with the saints.

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor.”
Luke 4:18-19 ESV

Don't let it stop there. Continue their work. There are still so many people who have never heard the Gospel. They may even be your neighbors.

Please add to your prayers, that we rejoice in the dedication and perseverance of the apostles. Let us praise and give thanks for their sacrifices, and for our merciful Father who paved the way, that the Gospel was received.

Nothing can separate us

Can you imagine a love like this?
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 8:38-39 ESV

If you don't have a personal relationship with Jesus, what are you waiting for? All you have to do is confess with your mouth and believe in your heart that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior. He sacrificed Himself for YOU so that YOU can have eternal life in Heaven. Contact me if you have made this decision today. May God bless you and keep you.

Peace with God

Lastly, Step Five on the Romans Road to Salvation tells us that salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God.
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith,
we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Romans 5:1 ESV

There is therefore now no condemnation
for those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1 ESV

Receive salvation

 https://www.facebook.com/groups/7thHourPrayerPower

Step Four on the Romans Road to Salvation is that we receive salvation and eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ.
It is a 2-step process:
because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes and is justified, and with the mouth one confesses and is saved.
Romans 10:9-10 ESV

You must
1. confess with your mouth AND
2. believe in your heart

Jesus died for you

 https://www.facebook.com/groups/7thHourPrayerPower

Step Three on the Romans Road to Salvation is that Jesus Christ died for our sins. Remember yesterday we said that "the price of sin is death"? Jesus paid that price for our death.
He was the Perfect Sacrifice. His death paid for the sins of every single one of us.
I don't remember where I saw this, but it went something like this...Imagine you were on death row. The guards take you out of your cell to walk you down the hall to be executed. Someone who you don't even know steps in and says, "I'm going to take your place." He goes with the guards, is executed, and you go home. How will you live your life? Will you live differently? Or will you return to your old ways, go back to committing crimes? I think (hope) most of us would live differently. Well, that story is true for each one of us. Jesus took our place when we were dead in our sins. Don't let it have been in vain.

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8 ESV

Accept the Free Gift

 https://www.facebook.com/groups/7thHourPrayerPower

Step Two on the Romans Road to Salvation is to accept God's free gift.
Once Adam and Eve sinned, death entered the world. Animals were sacrificed to provide clothing and later food. So, the price of sin is death. This includes man's spiritual death; our separation from God. Man literally walked in the Garden with our Creator yet just couldn't refrain from breaking His one command.
However, God, with His infinite love and mercy, paid that price so that we can live. His gift to us is free, no strings attached. All we have to do is accept it. Will you accept His free gift of salvation?
All of us have eternal life, the only question is, where will you spend eternity? Heaven or hell?

For the wages of sin is death,
but the free gift of God is
eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Romans 6:23 ESV

Everyone needs Salvation

 https://www.facebook.com/groups/7thHourPrayerPower
We're going to take a walk down the Romans Road to Salvation this week. We begin with Step One which states:
Everyone needs salvation because all have sinned.
as it is written:
“None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
    no one does good,
    not even one.”
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

The Great Commission

God has shown me another outlet where I can share the Gospel! (Hallelujah!) Therefore, I thought it would be a great opportunity to revisit the Romans Road to Salvation. The leaders of our women's group put together a step-by-step outline with relevant Bible verses for us to memorize (hopefully) and share (definitely) whenever the opportunity arises, and so I'm going to be sharing that with you throughout the week.
What I need from you (please and thank you) is for you to share these verses each day. Post them on social media, or download them to your device so that you can forward them through messaging and/or email.
Secondly, I need you to pray that this will bring lost sheep into the fold of our loving, merciful Good Shepherd.

My Pastor shared part of a sermon he heard...
There are three types of people in the world:
  • Those who have heard the Gospel and rejected it.
  • Those who have never heard the Gospel.
  • Those who have heard the Gospel and accepted it.
Then he said, "Now you're one of only two groups."
Let's make sure that everyone we have contact with is one of only two groups.

And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”
Matthew 28:18-20 ESV

Sharing the Gospel with strangers

This was one of my favorite videos out of all of the ones I've watched over the past week because it seemed like the most "organic" way to share the gospel and the method that would be most comfortable for me to approach the subject.

A simple outline of what he said:
1. Explore
 - Observe
 - Ask questions
2. Stimulate
 - Bridging from the conversation to the gospel
3. Share
 - testimony
 - Good News

It's my personal opinion that it would be difficult to share the gospel with a total stranger, and it's funny that that's the title of the video since his first step involves getting to know the person. There are gifted people out there who can go up to a stranger and ask, "do you have a personal relationship with Jesus?"
There are others who are able to start talking to someone at the next gas pump and by the time their tank is full, they've shared the Good News. Neither of those scenarios is going to be accomplished by me, so I need to find methods (and I really hate calling it a method, but when we're trying to learn a new skill, that's the only word that comes to mind) that will work with my spiritual gifts, knowledge, personality, etc. It needs to come from my heart.
My husband shared this bible verse with me and it reminded me that when I was saved, I was transformed and people can just see that, whether they realize what they're witnessing or not.

Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John,
and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men,
they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.
Acts 4:13

Remember, God is with us always and forever. The Holy Spirit resides in each one of us. Jesus is our Savior.

Please join me this week in praying for the wisdom, courage, and words necessary to share the gospel, utilizing our spiritual gifts, in such a way that will plant seeds and ultimately bear fruit for the Kingdom of God.

You've got this

Image by Peggy und Marco Lachmann-Anke from Pixabay
Perseverance - steady persistence in a course of action or purpose, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement.

I am an introvert. The idea of asking someone if they know Jesus makes me, frankly, nauseous. But feeling that way makes me feel like the lowest form of life because of what Jesus did for me on the cross. You would think I'd be able to talk about Him freely and constantly. It's hard. It's hard for a lot of us because we fear rejection and the possibility of angering someone. I've tried talking to loved ones about Jesus and have had them get downright angry at me. So, I've wondered, what's the right thing to say or what are the exact words others use to start the conversation? I've watched other people do this with such ease and without upsetting anyone and I wonder what's their secret?

I think the answer is "perseverance". They've done it over and over again and have gotten to where they're comfortable and not as afraid as I am. Just like anything else, it takes practice.

I listen for clues or openings and have been better prepared to respond to those by reading the Bible consistently and studying its contents. I pray for strength and especially for the words I need. It all works together to help me be a better servant to Jesus (I consider myself to be a "beginner" at best) and to be a part of the Great Commission which is our purpose for being here. We're planting seeds and may never see the fruits of our labor but we can trust in the Lord that we're doing His will whenever we share the Good News. Persevere. With God's strength, you've got this.

Seek the Lord and His strength;
Seek His face evermore!
1 Chronicles 16:11 NKJV

Let's talk about Jesus

Remember how easy it was to start a conversation as children? When did it get to be so hard?

The current series of sermons at our church is on Philippians (you can listen to past sermons here) and yesterday's was about responding to God's call. Once we are saved, the work begins. Imagine being a Phillipians back then and reading this letter from Paul. He didn't sugarcoat anything, telling them, "For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake." (Phil. 1:29 NKJV). Paul himself was writing as he was under house arrest, chained to a guard. That didn't keep him from speaking freely and openly about Christ.
Even under these conditions, he was writing to encourage and teach (in case he couldn't make it back to visit them) the Philippians as to what they need to do to live a Christian life.
I believe that a lot of us today have trouble spreading His word because we live in fear. We don't fear being imprisoned or killed because of our faith, but merely of being rejected when we attempt to share the gospel with non-believers. Remember everything Christ went through for us? Can we not at least face the possibility of rejection for Him? I know I have a really hard time with it, so I'm not preaching at you; I merely want to start the conversation. Let's talk about Jesus.

being confident of this very thing,
that He who has begun a good work in you
will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;
Philippians 1:6 NKJV

Faith from hearing the Gospel

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood. And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. ...

So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief;
for assuredly, I say to you,

Faith is a gift from God

Image by Michael Schwarzenberger from Pixabay
I believe that God hears my prayers and answers all of my prayers; sometimes 'yes', sometimes 'no' and always in His time and not mine. When we pray for the salvation of the unsaved, He hears our pleas. George Muller prayed every single day for a handful of people to be saved and as they came to faith, he prayed for additional people. Every single person he prayed for came to faith, except for one (if I'm remembering the story correctly). I look at some people and think they're an impossible cause because of their convictions, but then I remember Saul. If God can convert Saul (Paul), then He can convert anyone.
People come to Christ by hearing the Gospel, so be a messenger for God, but also pray for those who aren't saved and see what a difference it makes.

For by grace you have been saved through faith.
And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God,
Ephesians 2:8 ESV
