From IMB's website, there are 11,727 people groups (approx. 7.8 billion people).
Of those, 7,067 are "unreached" people groups (approx. 4.6 billion people) and 3,018 are "unengaged" people groups (approx. 274 million people).
Their definition of "unreached" is when less than 2% of the population of the people group are evangelical Christians.
Their definition of "unengaged" is when there are no church planting efforts among that people group.
According to Missionary Portal's website:
"It’s estimated one missionary is needed for every 50,000 unreached person. As a result, we need 66,547 more missionaries to serve these people."
And he said to them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few. Therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.
